PROGRAM NOTES
2020 and 2021 have been years of great hardship and suffering for so many of us around the world, including for many people whom we love and those we have lost due to this devastating pandemic. Niké (which means Victory in Greek) is my musical response to our current time, as we work together to open up as a society in search for new hope.
This compostion for clarinet, vibraphone, and piano takes the listener from the introspective moments of reection, as we all pondered about those we love and miss so very much, and moves us toward an ever-growing sentiment of hope, brightness, ebullience, and ultimately triumph. This triumph is the victory of our resilience and faith as humankind and the triumph of love of life and for each other.
