This work was created as a reflection on Germinal, a literary work by Emile Zola. The drama of a coal-mining town that starts a strike in search of better living conditions turns out to be the downfall of the main characters in the novel, Catherine and Etienne. Structured in two movements, the first movement explores the terrible conditions of the miners and their state of mind as they approach to the pit every morning at the start of a new shift. The second movement begins in the time of agitation of a revolt organized by the miners in the apex of their strike. This agitation turns into tragedy, as the mine collapses, trapping the main characters in one of the tunnels, where they will find death together.
