This six-minute composition is a study of expression and tone in the flute. Two very contrasting ideas (one expressive and melancholic and one extroverted and at times furious) fight for their voice in the composition. While the expressive section interrupts at first successfully the second one, eventually the second section will take over the composition, in a process of inversion of proportions. Concert-Etude is more than a composition to highlight the virtuosic qualities of a soloist; it brings also a philosophical conflict, one of Apollonian and Dionysian consequences.
