Composed in 2013, this work is dedicated to the American ingenuity of the automotive industry. Each one of the three movements reflects on the experience of driving three famous classic car models from the automotive history of Detroit of the 1960-70s: the 1964 Ford Mustang, the 1970 Pontiac GTO, and the 1973 Chevrolet Corvette. The contrasting personalities of these cars and their engines are part of the musical fabric of each movement, together with the inspiration of Motown music of the 60s and 70s. In addition to Motown, the work features elements of soul, R&B, pop, and even funk. The spirit and essence of these styles of music give way to alto saxophone writing that is at times quite virtuosic and always exuberant and expressive.
